What?

The Ontario Society of Education Through Art is a nonprofit organization that actively promotes and advocates learning through the visual arts. OSEA, as a subject association, is a recognized affiliate of the Ontario Teachers Federation, and maintains ties with the Canadian Society for Education Through Art (CSEA), the International Society for Education through Art (INSEA), and the Arts Education Council of Ontario (AECO). OSEA functions in an advisory role with the Ministry of Education and Training, faculties of education and other government agencies.

When?

Since its inception in 1942, OSEA has served educators across the province by providing leadership in the development and promotion of quality visual arts education at all levels.

Who?

Members of OSEA include elementary and secondary teachers, professional artists and designers, art education consultants and administrators,university and college instructors, gallery and museum educators, and government representatives.

Why?

.....OSEA exists to:

• act as a forum of communication and information exchange for visual arts educators in the province of Ontario
• contribute to the ongoing review of theory and practice in visual arts education,and to be a force in shaping educational policy
• maintain a liaison and partnership with other education and interest groups, and vigorously support learning through the visual arts, both within and beyond Ontario;
• enhance teaching standards through professional development such as conferences, local workshops and seminars, research and publications;
• encourage the growth of both formal and casual public interest groups that advocate for the visual arts; and
• promote and publicize desirable policy, practices and OSEA services to the Society's membership.
